Nondiffusive Hot Spot in a Confined, Narrow Domain
نویسنده
چکیده
The spatial structure and temporal evolution of a nondiffusive hot spot is examined in a confined, planar enclosure. The situation is modelled by the reactive Euler equations and single-step Arrhenius kinetics with a large (scaled) activation temperature 1/ . The initial state of the medium is taken to be one of uniform pressure but with a prescribed thermal gradient of order across the domain. The induction equations, which govern order disturbances to the initial state, are analyzed in the limit of small α, where α measures the width of the domain relative to the acoustic length based on a characteristic reaction time at the initial state. The solution displays a sequence of finite-time singularities as the hot spot grows in strength and shrinks in size in a spatially homogeneous pressure environment. Ultimately, in a region of exponentially small size, significant pressure gradients appear as acoustic and reaction times become comparable and the hot-spot structure is found to obey the full, but previously analyzed, Clarke equations.

Analytical interpretation of nondiffusive phonon transport in thermoreflectance thermal conductivity measurements
We derive an analytical solution to the Boltzmann transport equation (BTE) to relate nondiffusive thermal conductivity measurements by thermoreflectance techniques to the bulk thermal conductivity accumulation function, which quantifies cumulative contributions to thermal conductivity from different mean free path energy carriers (here, phonons). Our solution incorporates two experimentally def...
متن کاملTheoretical analysis of the microwave-drill near-field localized heating effect
The microwave-drill principle fJerby et al., Science 298, 587 s2002dg is based on a localized hot-spot effect induced by a near-field coaxial applicator. The microwave drill melts the nonmetallic material locally and penetrates mechanically into it to shape the hole. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the thermal-runaway effect induced in front of the microwave drill. The model coupl...
متن کاملNondiffractive-nondiffusive beams in complex crystals
The study of spatial dispersion of two-dimensional complex crystals, with periodic modulations of both gain-loss and the refractive index, reveals simultaneous nondiffractive-nondiffusive light propagation. Narrow light beams and light patterns propagate without dispersion while amplified through the complex material. We determine and explore nondiffractive-nondiffusive regimes for collinear an...

We present the first long-slit spectra of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068 obtained by the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS); the spectra cover the wavelength range 1150 – 10,270 Å at a spatial resolution of 0.05 – 0.1 and a spectral resolving power of λ/∆λ ≈ 1000. In this first paper, we concentrate on the far-UV to near-IR continuum emission from the continuum “hot spot” and surroundin...

Fatigue analysis and estimation of safe life of structures that are subjected to cyclic loadings, such as ships and offshore structures is one of the most important steps of structural design. Fatigue failure in the form of crack will start from details and propagate in structure. In steel structures these cracks will started from welds. Most of the methods for fatigue life assessment in welded...
